Welcome back! There are tons of skin problems that affect the little ones. If you haven’t checked out my post about diaper rashes then check that out here. Today will be focusing on something also common in most infants as it affects millions adults around the world. If you haven’t guessed it then yes I am speaking of acne. I have a two part series about adult acne that you can check out here if you are an adult who also suffers from Acne (Tackling Acne Part 1). Now, back to the little ones!
What is infantile acne?
Infantile acne affects infants in their first year of life usually around 6 weeks up to 12 months. The most common areas being the forehead and chin. More common in males than females.
The acne itself can include whiteheads, blackheads, inflammatory papules, and in severe cases nodules.
The cause of infantile acne is unknown. Possibly genetic in nature. There are times that hormonal imbalances can occur but this is most likely more visible in children ages 2-6. This age would be where further investigating is more warranted if concerned.
Infantile acne can lead to scarring and these individuals are more likely to deal with acne as they get older.
How do you treat this?
Infantile acne is nothing to be too concerned about but annoying nonetheless. Most of the time infants will outgrow this problem but if this problem persists or is concerning then you could try to use Benzoyl peroxide cleanser 2.5% to help with some of these spots.
Word of Caution: BP can be harsh on sensitive skin so any sign of irritation is reason to discontinue this cleanser!
In severe cases, seek out a medical professional to help with this problem.
I wrote this short post as a request from one of my followers. I hope this provides some information in regards to the problem. If you have any other questions then shoot me a DM on twitter.
