Welcome back! Today is day one of my anti-aging series where I will talk all about what can make your skin glow and how to prevent dark spots, wrinkles, and all other things related to aging. If you are like me then I do worry that when I am 60 years old, I will have wrinkly, spotty skin on my face. Nothing to worry about because there are ways to prevent this. Nothing wrong with wrinkles or brown spots at all. You all are all beautiful anyway. I like to have a good skincare routine just like I do my body with a good diet and good exercise routine. Things that I eat and do to keep my body in shape now will help as I get older to avoid things like obesity, heart disease, and other harmful medical problems. Same goes for your face. Having a good skincare routine will exponentially keep your face looking great for the decades to come. Lets dive in to fix these wrinkles and brown spots!
The first post in this series is about Vitamin C. I get the question all the time about what is the big deal about Vitamin C and how it affects the skin. Well, I am here to tell you there are tons of benefits.
So what is Vitamin C?
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin found in a lot of citrus fruit. Vitamin C is great for your body and helps form blood vessel, collagen, and can act as an antioxidant which is where the skin comes into play. Anti-oxidants are basically chemicals that can fight off free radicals or a good way to remember is that they fight toxins whether it be from external things like air pollution or internal things like high inflammatory states due to bad eating. Either way, Vitamin C can help!
Benefits of Vitamin C on the Skin
Vitamin C can improve wrinkles by stimulating collagen and elastin which are two proteins in your skin responsible for skin structure. The more of these you have the less likely your skin loses its flexibility and prevents wrinkles.
Vitamin C when combined with sunscreen, Vitamin E, or ferulic acid can help protect you from UV rays that damage the skin and cause brown sun spots.
Vitamin C can prevent over-production of pigment in the skin leading to decreased blotchy brown spots.
What products to use?
Below are some of my favorites that I have personally used. All are gentle to the skin and will provide the benefits above. La Roche-Posay is a little pricier so find what works best for you!
To use Vitamin C serum in your routine, I would use it right before moisturizing in the AM. For example:
Gentle cleanser
Vitamin C serum
Moisturize
Stay tuned for more anti-aging hacks and tips for your skin. There are so many and I am excited to share with you.
