Welcome back! If you are new here then I suggest you check out my first part of this series all about acne here: Tackling Acne Part I. The first part of this series dives into how to recognize acne lesions and some general principles to practice on your journey to a clean and clear face. Once you know where you fall on the spectrum of acne, you can begin to understand what ingredients will help you to treat this pesky problem. For a comprehensive guide on how to pick the right product, check my Picking the right product guide here. The goal of today will be to introduce and talk about some common ingredients that can be found in over the counter products that will help treat your acne. Stay tuned for part III where I will talk more about some of the specific brands that I have personally used and more information on what to look for in an acne treatment product. Below is a visual from part I that shows the different types of acne lesions and how acne can appear on your face, chest, and back. Lets dive in!
As mentioned before, acne affects millions of people around the world and in order to treat it effectively you must remember two things: consistency and discipline. The treatments and ingredients that I will speak about later can only be effective if you practice those two things. Treating acne can be exhausting and downright discouraging but developing good habits will guarantee your success. That is where I come in. I am here to not only help you understand how to treat your acne but also to encourage you into making good choices and developing good habits to keep your skin looking clear.
A great way to think of it is similar to dieting or working out. Even when you reach your goal weight or PR, you must continue to train and eat healthy in order to maintain your progress. Similar to acne, you must have a consistent routine to maintain what you achieve. The good thing is that it can be easy. Really easy. My personal skincare routine takes me approximately 3 minutes in the morning and 3 minutes at night to complete. That is it!
Discipline mainly applies to the choice of products you use and the time you use them. What do I mean by that, though? You must learn to not be disappointed when results don’t come after a week or maybe even two. Staying the course and developing discipline will assure you progress and ultimately success. So finally, the question still unanswered, “what ingredients do I choose to fix my acne?” Well, lets dive in!
